this post is a comment i left on a forum about artists who say they are not signed but they really are signed to a major label
a lot of artists are doing this to seem like they are just this amazing artist who came out of nowhere they sort of dupe the audience into thinking this person really went from rags to riches by their own determination its really payola and there are influencers behind the scenes anyway i just wanted to share so here it is: +++++++++++++++ i knew this was going on for a while for a few reasons 1. i went to music business school and learned everything is pay to play 2. one time on allhiphop i saw a roc-a-wear ad and i thought nothing of it until i realized two of the editors of the site were literally in the ad.. so all of a sudden i realized why they were always dissing cam'ron and bigging up jay-z and keeping jay in headlines even when he didn't have an album out 3. the term "bought buzz" started getting big a few yrs ago.. mainly with drake.. i remember for example when he first came out no one was really biting but they had his face on the front of allhiphop for literally 2 years which made people start checking for him.. labels pay to be on the front pages of the sites... when i realized this i stopped frequenting the sites 4. was because there are artists who do the same money, hoes, cars, clothes thing and get big.. why would someone get big out of nowhere when they sell the same thing as someone else? its just basic logic 5. this was what made me see the whole picture: i was watching trinidad james on breakfast club.. (now if u want to see it you have to see the right one because he's been on there a few diff times).. on the interview angela yee was like "there's a rumor you are signed to def jam" or something like that.. and he tried to deny it but i knew he was lying just by how he responded.. he didn't say a normal thing like "no i'm not signed to def jam- where'd you hear that?" he said something like "you're telling me that, i don't know anything about that" i can't remember exactly how he worded it but i'm telling you i immediately knew he was lying.. you know how people don't expect a question and they sort of stumble.. that's what happened.. i knew immediately he was lying because it made too much sense.. "all gold everything" sucked.. that's exactly how those in power want to portray black people.. as poor idiots in the hood saying the n-word and looking/acting like an idiot.. being stupid, looking retarded and doing molly.. SO OF COURSE THEY BACKED IT.. PLUS I ALWAYS SUSPECTED HE HAD BACKING BECAUSE THE VIDEO IS SO OBVIOUSLY PROFESSIONALLY DONE let someone say something smart on a song and see if they back it trinidad james makes odb look like barak obama so yeah, they will promote that all day he got dropped cuz he wasn't playing nice, he showed signs of A. not knowing how to do interviews and B. not wanting to be ratchet in the future.. (see his angie martinez interview for reference)
