too many cooks Posted by poolboyjames on May 25, 2010 at 5:24 PM comments (0)one thing i've learned through music is i don't really know how to work with other people
i mean i do know how, but i really only do it under certain circumstances i never like to umm.. like start something from scratch with someone the problem with starting from scratch with someone is u have 2 people with 2 different visions of what the song can, should, or will be to me, this isn't the ideal situation its like when u see a movie.. movies have directors.. u have actors and set designers and camera men and all these other people.. but everything has to be funneled through the eyes of one.. the director everyone has to succumb to what the director wants because he has to be the eyes and ears and he has to oversee how everything gets done he looks at all factors at once and weighs them out in his head against one another.. he is the head visionary of the movie this is how i look at music.. i don't know how to just bounce ideas back and forth until a project is finished ideally in my world, people can work together, but only when two finished products meet and mesh through one vision this is why i barely ever really call people for help on music or anything.. because i don't want their ideas messing up my vision to me its like i can work with people, but i have to have a vision for their input.. like.. for example: i have a song that needs guitar but i can't play guitar but i know the perfect guitarist for the job.... i call that guitarist and i say to them.. LET THAT SH*T RIP or i have an album that is finished but i need it mixed and mastered professionally in an awesome studio.... i call up someone i trust who runs a studio and i say.. "how much will u charge me to mix and master my album?" or say i have a dope song but i realize i need a female singer on the chorus.. i get her to come over and i tell her how i want the melody to sound i understand those scenarios.. under those circumstances the the vision of one is still being completed however when u just start from scratch with someone it is just annoying.. u have someone who thinks something should happen like this and someone else thinks it should happen like that i say take away their choices.. complete your project as much as possible and only allow people a certain window of freedom, choice, and responsibility on your project working this way makes u very decisive.. it puts u as the captain of your ship in a sense, but i feel that is what creates a good leader, or "director" or visionary in music everyone plays an important role in the creation process but the visionary or creator of a project has to have his plans and ideas together before taking on the endeavor.. its like when u get married, u don't want two people who are "under construction" getting together and ideal marriage is created where both parties are whole u don't want one person being mature and one being weak and immature.. u want 2 financially and mentally stable people to come together in order for a marriage to be successful i really wanted to point that out cuz its like the exact same principle as my philosophy for working with other people peaCe
