portable hard drives Posted by poolboyjames on February 20, 2010 at 10:39 PM comments (0)i feel like this entry should be on another page because its kinda tech-ish and a lot of people may not understand what im saying.. however i'm gnna go through my experience with portable hard drives
i will try to make this as simple as possible bought a western digital portable hard drive it was garbage it was garbage for so many reasons that i dont kno where to start please dont ever buy a western digital hard drive, it will not work the way u want it to if i wasn't so computer savvy this device would have been at fault for me losing over 40gigs of data it uses proprietary software right.. and after a while u have to update it, and an update is like $59.99.. me being the type of guy i am, i got the software online for free, but imagine that! ...u buy a device and after a while they make u pay to use what u just bought like say u bought a hammer, and 2 months later some guy comes up to u and says "r u planning on using that hammer again?" u say yes, so he says "well pay me $59.99 and i'll let u keep using it" on top of that, it installs trojans on ur computer on top of that, it encrypts ur saved files, so say ur hard drive really does get wiped clean and u have to reinstall everything.. then u will have to convert dml files back into whatever the file originally was.. how do u do that? u have to harass the company (which is based in FRANCE) until they send u a way to the conversion software.. don't believe me? check the message boards online on top of that, it monitors and limits how many computers u can unload ur files onto.. look.. its just trash, i feel like i could go on all day about it.. DO NOT BUY WESTERN DIGITAL HARD DRIVES PERIOD ok.... now.... i later bought a 'clickfree' portable hard drive works great it has NONE of the above problems or issues if u need a portable harddrive, buy a 'clickfree automatic backup' works for pc and mac, does everything with no extra headaches end of story peaCe by the way.. if u don't need a lot of memory and u like to backup ur files and things, then instead of goin with a portable hard drive, here are a few ways u can save things: jump drive with a few gigs on it an extra SD card online storage cd-rs can also be effective
