honor God Posted by poolboyjames on July 26, 2010 at 2:19 AM comments (0)i ran across a good segment today in the Bible concerning tithes and offering:
"Is it time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this temple lies in ruins? Now, says the Lord, consider this.. you have sown much, and bring in little; you eat, but do not have enough; you drink, but you are not filled with drink; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and he who earns wages, earns wages to put into a bag with holes." wow, this is so clear to me.. the question alone to me was enough to make me really consider my ways, but then u have the Lord telling you something like "go ahead and take inventory of your life.. if it matched up to what I just described, then NOW YOU KNOW WHY" this is very very clear to me and so i hope i will develop an obedient and diligent heart in this area.. i definitely desire to make sure i submit to the Lord in the area of my finances after reading this! (btw all this was in haggai chapter 1.. i encourage you to go check it out if you care to grow in your obedience in this area) sometimes people wonder what they should tithe on ok i am going to go ahead and say i don't know for sure proverbs 3:9 says "honor the Lord with your substance and the firstfruits of all your produce" so u have certain questions.. like should i give to God before or after taxes? if someone gives me $5 do i have to tithe on it? should i tithe if i get a loan? etc etc. my take is this: honor God on basic principle.. just be obedient on a basic level.. in my opinion u don't have to tithe on a loan or tithe 50cents on $5 or tithe before taxes i think God (and remember, this is just me talking here.. just my estimation) wants us to just be obedient on a basic level.. "the firstfruits of your produce" .. meaning, out of your paycheck.. out of what u made for yourself like say u get a paycheck and before taxes it is $480 but after taxes it is $450.. i think u pay tithe on the $450 because that is what u have produced for yourself.. the Bible says God gives us the ability to make money.. so i think He is just looking for us to acknowledge that and realize that no matter what we are doing for a paycheck.. God gave us that ability and so we need to surrender our money to Him before we do anything else with it i don't think He wants us to tithe on a loan because that is not something we PRODUCED, or it is not an INCREASE, it is just something we have that we need to pay back.. and if someone gives us a birthday gift of money i don't think He is necessarily looking for us to tithe it.. my guess is that it is just the basic obedience that He is looking for not necessarily.. "i found 50cents today so i have to tithe a nickel" i think its more just .. when u get ur paycheck from whatever work u do.. consistently tithe from that so that's my estimate if i am wrong i hope and pray that God or someone else would let me know.. but as for right now i think God just wants a basic obedience in this area so yeah hopefully this is helpful to someone peaCe
