one thing that irritated me to no end was when the guy would go and have cats freestyle for him they'd always rap about killing someone or selling drugs or whatever and then he'd ask them why they have to rap like that and they'd say "that's what people want to hear" "no one wants to hear anything positive" "record labels won't accept anything but drugs/violence" ok there is so much wrong with this that i am not sure where to start like ok for one, if u are writing just what you think people want to hear in order to make money then you are writing for the wrong reason and also, when someone asks you about your lyrical content, why is it that everyone is responsible for it except you? like this whole belief system that only one thing sells is ridiculous i don't agree with people saying something 'different' or something 'positive' won't sell.. like if it won't sell, it's because u say it won't sell! if you are making music, then you are the one in the driver's seat own that position or hang up the mic
