I really hope God doesn’t strike me down for this, if anyone wants to comment on it feel free but I want to put my thoughts out there on altar call (i really am just talking about sin altar call btw.. not "get saved" altar call)
I want to tread lightly because my perception could be wrong.. so I definitely welcome comments on this topic Ok at most churches they have this thing called altar call where at the end they ask you to come to the front of the church if the message applied to you so you can acknowledge it.. and they will also pray for you I think praying for people is fine but I don’t get why they ask you to come up to the front of the church like that.. why not just pray for everyone without asking anyone to go to the front? The altar call is normally something that has to do with sin, so it’ll be like “if you have been fornicating then come up in front of the church and we will pray with you” who wants to go in front of a thousand people and put their business out there like that? I don’t see how this is constructive Why can’t they just say: “if this message applied to you then acknowledge it in your hearts and prayers and we will also pray with u now” ..and then they could pray for the whole congregation and send everyone home without the pressure that comes along with the typical altar call The bible does say its good to “confess your sins to one another” ..I understand that, but I guess my interpretation is that- “one another” means APPROPRIATE PEOPLE.. in other words, people you can help or people who can help you.. people on your level.. people you can talk to and explain things to.. like basically, I guess I take it like this: ‘don’t act like you’re perfect all the time.. a person will need your testimony.. when this time comes.. make sure u are ready to confess not only your sin, but also God’s help and deliverance.. don’t just act like you’ve never been through any struggles with sin.. be humble and pray for others who are struggling… and ask for prayer when u need it too’ to me, that^ is a more meaningful expression of your sin than altar call.. I could be wrong.. but that is just my view.. again, if I’m wrong in this then leave a comment please.. I legit want to know what peeps think of this topic if possible to me, altar call doesn't feel like it is helping.. to me it just feels like peer pressure To me it seems like you should tell your little cousin about your mistakes.. not go up in front of church every week.. to me that seems unnecessary.. like its so impersonal.. why expose yourself to a thousand people you never met? What is gained by anyone? if you confess your sins to someone in a more personal way then you can be more real and transparent and really dig into the issue and get feedback.. maybe you'll also even get trust and respect I’m not even so much against altar call, I just generally feel my walk with God is too personal to just do the one-size-fits-all thing at the end of church every week.. and I’d rather just quietly marinate on the things said in the sermon than have that disrupted by the pressure of altar call If anyone knows a place in the bible where it says we should do altar call let me know.. and btw.. DON’T LET ME DISCOURAGE U FROM DOING IT.. these are just my personal thoughts what do u peeps who go to church think? am i just totally wrong in my perception do u think altar call is biblical? do u think churches are doing it correctly? or do u think it needs work? what's the word on the street?
